Business Victoria grant for Shop in Ararat campaign

Ararat Rural City Council has been successful in gaining a Business Victoria – Support Small Business Day grant to help fund a much needed shop local program, ‘Take Another Look – Shop Ararat’.
Responses to a council business development survey showed that shopping local was an area of concern for business with the rise in internet business and the global economy.
Mayor, Cr Paul Hooper said every dollar spent outside of Ararat is basically supporting someone else’s economy, not Ararat’s.
‘Active Economy’ is one of the four pillars of council’s recent re-branding of Ararat Active City and council is reviewing its own procurement policies.
Council will be working with businesses and the Ararat Regional Business Association to improve standards and products within the businesses themselves to get ready for customers to ‘Take Another Look’ in the lead up the Christmas Trading and beyond.
Business Development Officer John Watson said Victorian industry figures show that over $270 million of Ararat’s spending each year is spent outside the region.
“If we can get back 10 percent, it would be an extra $27 million dollars of benefit to the area.”
To support Small Business Day and your local businesses on October 4, log into and be eligible to win local vouchers and gift cards.
